The School of Biotechnology, founded in 2002 within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS, NAAC Accredited 'A++' Grade Institution), a Deemed-to-be-University under Section 3 of the UGC Act (1956), plans to grow students into capable Biotechnologists. The emphasis is on equipping them to implement superior processes and applications that shape agriculture, industry, healthcare, and ecologic rehabilitation. The department provides a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.Sc in Biotechnology, and B.Sc and M.Sc in Microbiology.
The Department offers M.Sc in Biotechnology as a postgraduate specialisation.
The M.Sc in Microbiology follows an outcome-based education approach which prepares students to fulfill industry standards and societal requirements across local and national and global territories. The Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) follow the Department and University vision and mission to create worldwide capable biotechnologists who possess excellent technical abilities and research capabilities and problem-solving competencies.
The M.Sc Biotechnology program requires students to acquire 80 credits during 2 years of study which consist of 58 credits from the "Compulsory Courses Basket" and 22 credits from the "Elective Courses Basket.
Students need to pass all compulsory courses according to the semester-wise scheme. The elective courses consist of department-based subjects together with listed MOOCs from SWAYAM and UGC/AICTE-approved courses.

For the 2-Year programme, candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in B.Sc. with any subject related to Life Sciences. For the 1-Year programme, candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in a 4-Year B.Sc. (Hons./Hons. with Research) in any discipline related to Life Sciences from a recognized university.

The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2002 under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS, NAAC Accredited ‘A++’ Grade Institution), a Deemed-to-be-University under Section 3 of the UGC Act (1956).
The department has highly qualified teaching faculty with Doctoral and M.Tech qualifications in different areas of Biotechnology. Faculty members are consistently involved in quality research. Their dedicated efforts have resulted in more than 400 publications in National and International journals of high repute.
Huge funds are being mobilized in different areas of biotechnology such as biopharma, agri-biotechnology, diagnostics, horticulture, food science and initiatives by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Department of Science & Technology (DST).
The Department has a wide range of laboratories namely Cell Biology Lab, Microbiology Lab, Fermentation Technology Lab, Molecular Biology Lab, Environment Biotechnology Lab, Bioinformatics equipped with world class instrument facilities like HPLC, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy, Fermenters, Gel Doc System, PCR, etc.

Industry Oriented Curriculum Design
In 1st to 3rd Semester emphasis to prepare student for designing and working on research project along with lab experiments 4th Semester is totally dedicated for Dissertation and student performance is strickly monitored Visits to different industry and research institutes like THSTI and RCB Faridabad .Encourage students to participate and present papers in research conferences.
