The mds in periodontology program teaches students about all types of periodontal treatment to become highly skilled in conventional and contemporary therapy procedures.

They are adequately taught the etiology, clinical presentation, and differential diagnosis of tooth and alveolar structure oral disease, which is crucial in the prevention of teeth loss.

Eligibility

In order to take admission in mds in periodontology course, the candidates are required to submit the following documents with the fee as prescribed:

  • Pass/degree certificate of BDS from a recognized university of Dental Council of India (DCI) or equivalent
  • Original marks cards of all exams passed of the university (I to IV BDS years)
  • Attempt certificate issued by the Principal
  • Certificate of completion of compulsory rotatory internship from a recognized dental college
  • Registration certificate from Dental Council of any State or Dental Council of India
  • Documentary proof of SC/ST or Category I, if eligible

Admission Criteria

  • Admission to the mds in periodontology is on the basis of uniform entrance test, most commonly NEET MDS, as per Central Government regulations. There may also be state-level or university-level entrance examinations by some colleges.
  • The candidates are given a minimum of 50th percentile in NEET MDS for General category. Minimum is 40th percentile for SC, ST, and OBC categories. Minimum is 45th percentile for candidates with locomotor disabilities.
  • Admission is given on merit basis, i.e., entrance test performance followed by centralized counseling and seat allotment.

Nationality

  • Enrollment in mds periodontology courses of most Indian universities is available only for Indian nationals.

Selection Criteria

  • Educational Qualifications: BDS degree from a reputed university is mandatory. An aggregate of 50–60% in BDS is mandatory for most colleges.
  • Entrance Exam: NEET MDS (or the equivalent national/state-level entrance examination) must be cleared. Some universities may also conduct their own written exam or interview.
  • Internship: Mandatory one-year rotatory internship is compulsory. Some institutions also look for clinical experience in periodontology.
  • Interview or Counseling: After qualification of the entrance exam, candidates may be required to sit for a personal counseling or interview for allotment of seats.
  • Academic Performance: BDS regular academic record, practical and clinical examinations, is generally considered.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Teachers or dental practitioners may be asked to give recommendation letters by some colleges, especially if the candidate already has some experience in periodontology.
  • Other Requirements: A portfolio, evidence of clinical practice, or publications may be asked for by some universities.
